On September 12, 2023, Apple presented the new iPhone 15 series, which consists of four versions. Curious about the innovations, release date and price of the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro? You can read all about it on this page!
iPhone 15: four models
There are four models of the iPhone 15. The basic model is the 6.1-inch iPhone 15. It is also available in large sizes: the 6.7-inch iPhone Plus. These two iPhones are the same in everything – only the size and battery life differ.
In this article, we focus on the ‘regular’ iPhone 15. Do you want to know more about one of the other three devices? Then navigate to the other files by tapping on the relevant iPhone model below. This is the lineup:

iPhone 15 prices
The iPhone 15 comes in three different storage variants: 128 GB, 256 GB and 512 GB. The iPhone 15 prices are as follows:
- iPhone 15 128 GB: $999
- iPhone 15 256 GB: $1,199
- iPhone 15 512 GB: $1,399
- iPhone 15 1TB: $1,599
These prices make the iPhone 15 surprisingly affordable compared to its predecessor, which started at $1,019 for the iPhone 14 at launch.
Dynamic Island
The iPhone 15 looks very similar to the iPhone 15 Pro models. At the top of the screen is the Dynamic Island – last year only for the most expensive Pro iPhones.
The Dynamic Island is the oval opening at the top of the screen, which also houses the sensors for Face ID and the selfie camera. The ‘island’ can do even more than before. You can control your music, see who’s calling, navigate Maps, check your flight status and more.
The design has also been refined, with a matte glass back for an extra luxurious look and rounded edges in the aluminium body for a more comfortable grip.
iPhone 15 colors
The colour palette of the iPhone 15 consists of five shades. There is a black colour, and there are five soft pastel-like shades. These are the iPhone 15 colours:
- Blue
- Pink
- Yellow
- Green
- Black
The case you choose is at least as important as the choice of colour. In an article about the iPhone 15 cases, you can see which official Apple cases are available.
iPhone 15 camera
The camera has always been one of the iPhone’s strengths, and the iPhone 15 takes this to a new level. The iPhone 15 still has two lenses: a wide angle and an ultra-wide angle.
The wide-angle (main camera) has been significantly improved with a 48-megapixel sensor, for sharper and more detailed photos. You can choose between the standard 24 MP resolution or the full 48 MP for unprecedented detail.
Thanks to the new main camera, you can now also zoom 2x optically without loss of quality, making it feel like you have a third camera. Portrait photography has been taken to the next level, with extra details, richer colours, and even the ability to focus after taking the photo. The iPhone 15 automatically recognizes people and animals for improved portrait mode. You can read more about this part in an article about the iPhone 15 camera.
Battery
On a single charge, the iPhone 15 can play 20 hours of video, according to Apple. With the larger Plus, this is 26 hours. This remains consistent with last year’s iPhone 14 (Plus), meaning battery life has not improved further.
First iPhone with USB-C
A big change compared to previous iPhones is the switch to a USB-C connection instead of Lightning. Now you can charge your Mac or iPad with the same cable as your iPhone 15.
Although the charging speed – unlike the iPhone 15 Pro models – has remained the same, you can now also charge your Apple Watch and AirPods with your iPhone 15. Please note that you need the latest AirPods Pro case with USB-C.
By the way, your Lightning cable is not completely redundant. Thanks to the new USB-C to Lightning adapter, the iPhone 15 still works with your charging cables. The only disadvantage: it costs 35 euros. Then you might as well get a new cable.
A16 Bionic-chip
The iPhone 15 is powered by the A16 Bionic chip, the same chip that we already know from the iPhone 14 Pro models. With a six-core CPU, a five-core GPU, and a sixteen-core Neural Engine, this chip can process nearly 17 trillion operations per second. This means the iPhone 15 is not as fast as the iPhone 15 Pro, but it is powerful enough for demanding tasks such as augmented reality and gaming.
A new addition is the second-generation Ultra Wideband chip, which allows you to locate your iPhone more accurately. This opens the door to new features such as ‘Precise Search’. This allows you to accurately see how far and in which direction your friends are so that you can easily find each other even in busy places.
